Google opens Search profiles to creators and publishers in Canada

Canada and India join the US; Brazil is next. Here’s who it’s for, and what Google says it does and doesn’t do.

Google’s Robby Stein announced on Oct. 6 that creators and publishers in India and Canada can now set up Search profiles, “their own dedicated home base on Google,” with Brazil rolling out soon. Profiles launched in the US in June, and on Sept. 16 Google lowered US eligibility to 10,000 followers on one of YouTube, Instagram, X or TikTok.

Search Engine Journal noted Google’s help page still listed only the US at midday Oct. 6, and that it isn’t yet clear whether the follower threshold applies in Canada. Google says a profile doesn’t directly affect ranking, though followers may see more of that source’s content in Discover.

Your checklist

  • List clients who publish regularly and have 10,000+ followers on one platform.
  • Check the claim page and help centre for Canadian eligibility before promising anything.
  • Prepare a consistent bio, avatar and links for each eligible client.
