A roughly two-week rollout means several bursts of volatility, the latest from Oct. 4 to 6.

Google’s September 2026 spam update began Sept. 24. Unlike typical two-day spam rollouts, Google said this one would take about two weeks, and Search Engine Roundtable has tracked several waves: Sept. 25–27, Sept. 30, and again Oct. 4–6.

If a client’s traffic moved after Sept. 24, check it against those dates before changing anything.

Your checklist

  • Annotate Sept. 24 to Oct. 6 in analytics for every client.
  • Hold major site changes until the rollout completes.
  • Review any pages built at scale with little human input.
